Rodman's agent collected and he got Rodman to buy a few coins. Boom suddenly the media started describing him as a collector. A couple of the agents other clients also bought a few coins and also became "collectors" that way.
Another was the violinist Jascha Heifetz. His collection was sold by Superior in October of 1989.
The DuPont family.

Archraz, he sent me a bunch of Japanese and British coins. He was very active for quite a while and I had an opportunity to go though hundreds of US Large Cents when vacationing when I was about 12. That was about 37 years ago. The one that stands out is a Japanese Yen with a bunch of chop marks that is dated around 1889. Nice big silver coin!

Cardinal Spellman of New York, had a hugh collection. I Remember in 1967 after he passed away the collection was on display at a bank in NYC. I spent a whole day there marvelling at all the beautiful gold and silver coins.

Here in the Philippines, one of the famous collector we have is Mayor Feliciano Belmonte of Quezon City who holds one Gold Morgan dollar (extremely rare)in his collection. Our former President Ramos is also a collector of rare gold coins...

I guess the internet and Google are really what this world needs. I find everything there as it is. For this subject, all you need to do is go to Google and type in famous coin collectors and lots and lots of info. Such as: Quote: Numismatics, or the studying and collection of coins, has been around since the Middle Ages. Early coin collectors included many of the Roman Emperors, such as Julius and Augustus, to name a few. In fact, coin collecting quickly became known as "The Hobby of Kings". Pontif Boniface VIII is also known to have collected coins during the Middle Ages. Petrarch, an Italian poet, was an avid collector as well. Elector Joachim II began the Berlin coin cabinet in Bradenburg, and Frederick the Great later added to it.
Lots and lots more there.

Something doesn't add up with that gold Morgan dollar. I don't think there is such a thing. I suspect it is some other rare gold coin.
