$444.

I like steve199's way of thinking. I for one have seldom paid more than $20 for any single coin. Allowing a fifty-cent increment with GUESSES (not actual prices) of $20 and below would double the amount of possible guesses, and players, on rounds hosted by cheapies like me. I can anticipate having to defer posting a coin in the future should I start listening to the voices again and bidding intelligently and actually win a round.

Oh, and the first one to guess $20.50 or $21.00 should get the $21 bid point, and if the $20.50 bid came as a snipe and too late to change, tough noogies. The posted rules are clear.

If I understand this correctly, the idea is to allow more guesses. So why would I round the $20.50 guess to $21.00? In the scenario this, I should allow the two separate guesses, one $20.50 guess and one $21.00. I have no problem with this. Well, the persons that made these guesses on a coin that is supposed to be below $20; well, they just want the five points I suppose!

I am still inclined to defer to the host. If they know a coin cost them less than $20, then they can allow half dollar increments. Just state this when the coin is posted.

Under no circumstance will I allow half dollar guesses on any auction coin or any coin that cost the host $20 or more. Actually, I might be flexible on this and say $30 or less.

Regardless, I have no doubt we can handle this on the fly.

If and when this happens (pls, I am pulling for you in the round!) the host should make the request and all should abstain from guessing until I post the final ruling. I will also make it clear when I post the "guesses so far" lists what is valid and what is not.

Sound fair?

Having the host come out and say 50 cent increments are allowed would tip the hand on the (low) value of the coin.

I'm only suggesting that guesses below $20 can have finer granularity...there would not be both a $20.50 and $21 guess. No adjustments on the fly would be necessary at all. Bidders choose whether they want to bid in that range or not.

No big deal, maybe it is too complicated.

Ah! I think I understand what you are saying now.

We would allow a $19.50 and $20.00 guess, but not a $20.50 guess.

This would be a valid table then:
Player 1 $10.50
Player 2 $11.00
Player 3 $11.50
Player 4 $15.00
Player 5 $19.50
Player 6 $20.00
Player 7 $21.00
Player 8 $22.00

Am I finally getting it? If so, I think I could allow this if no one has any objections. But not on this round though, since some guesses have already been made.

Not that there is any way someone would low-ball this round!

Only because all that is allowed is $1 increments, and in general, that works fantastic. But if someone floats a (perceived) $12 coin out there, there just isn't much space to bid. If it is a $30 coin, there is plenty of bid space. That's why I picked $20 as the cutoff.

Yes, you got it!

Hopefully Moe will chime in. I think wheatguy's $27 SLQ from last season is a perfect example of how the 50 cent increment could keep it more interesting, as more folks could have (incorrectly) piled up under the $20 mark.

I think JBuck has a great suggestion.

If the host wants to further differentiate the bids (less than $1 at a time) as long as he/she states it at the time of his/her coin posting (and JBuck agrees since he has to sort out the potential mayhem!), it could work nicely.

I do see Steve199's point. On a cheaper coin, the bids can pile up pretty quick. It wasn't a big deal when we only had 8 bids at a time for a coin, but now Mr. JBuck's game is getting popular!

I'll say $520 on this one, thinking somehow that Moe's pick of 1040AM as an end is a hint of some type.

Probably not though......but hey, worth a shot.

And......congrats Moe on winning last round.

Thank you, Sir.

The end time was just 3 days after I had posted the coin. No cryptic clue...(this time).
