I was recently examining two of my 2010 Canadian Vancouver Silver Maples up close and noticed an irregularity. Front and backs are identical, but here is the issue. The edge of the coins are totally different (have different edge patterns). If you were just looking at the edge of the coins, you would think they are 2 different coins.

Any ideas what this is?

Thanks!

Sounds like different reedings, though this I have never heard of. Would you mind posting pics? I'm checking through all my 2010 Vancs right now and none of them are showing different reedings.

Thanks wd1040. Here are 2 pictures. The first is just the maples. The second, though not a very good picture, shows the difference in the ridges/reedings. Something else different is the outermost circle on the obverse and reverse of the coin. What I mean by this is the "rim" or the "circle frame" presenting the picture on the coin. On one, it is flat and sharp. On the other...maybe rounded a bit/but definitely not sharp and flat like on the other maple. I don't know?

Sounds like maybe one is from Winnipeg, the other from Ottawa? If that's even possible. Weigh them out.

I read about something like this on one of the State Quarters. If I remember right one of the quarters collar was polished more than the other, creating a rounder reeding versus a more sharp reeding.

Just from the picture, I'm getting about 31 reeds on the left coin and 25 on the right. I'd lean towards totally different collars. Nice find.

Thanks for the discussion. Ironically, I only own 2 Canadian silver maples. Would someone mind telling me which looks to be the normal one? Just curious. I am betting on the right side one. Thanks!

Perhaps a couple of members/collectors out there wouldn't mind checking your Silver Maples to see if you have this reed difference. Let us know if you have any differences and which reed pattern you have (left or right). I think this is a good start, as there is no information anywhere on this irregularity.
