I found a thin 1942 Wheat in a jar my mom left me in 1980. It weighs 1.2 grams. It has a thin rim making it smaller than a normal cent but still larger than a dime. Any ideas as to how rare this is ?

First off, to CCF. If you could post a few photos of it, front and back and edge it would help us help you. A thin planchet coin would have a small premium, but I can't give you an amount because I don't know.

Thanks so much. I am away from home until next week. I can get some scans and pics to post then. The reverse detail is full wheat ears and the rim and date is very clear on the obverse. I really don't think it was acid treated, but truly have no clue as I have never seen another coin like this one. Again, I want to thank you guys. Mom left me an assortment of odd coins she saved from her concession and left to me in 1980. Since retirement, I am just now starting to sort through them, while I can still see them. Thanks again

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, but my wife needs more tests, so we are still away from home for awhile. Will get those pics up just as soon as I can. I am really curious about this cent.

Evidently, Mom tossed every odd looking coin aside, because I think there are some OMM's along with clipped and foreign coins. My knowledge is scant for sure.

Thanks,
