Would it be a good idea to pick up any and all Morgan CC's ? I am just starting to get some Morgans and from what I have read and seen, if you can afford them you should grab the CC's in any condition. What does everyone think ? Bryan, would this be wise ?

I would get the best examples I could afford but yes the CC mint coins has a strong following. the 82,83,84 CC's are actually pretty reasonable in higher grades (compared to the other dates) and they are easily found in PL and DPL condition, I think the 84 is about the cheapest CC Morgan there are. But yes if I could find a good CC Morgan I would buy it, some are pretty pricey even in low grades but the dates I mentioned is the ones I have right now. I have a 82 in MS-64 and a 83 GSA in MS-66PL and a 84 in MS-64Pl. I wouldn't rush to aquire any of these dates (unless it is the highest grade you are looking for, like I was collecting all MS-64's in all date/mint Morgans so the 64's fit well in my collection) because like I said they can be had in relatively high grades at pretty good prices right now, I actually think their price will go up in the future because they are the only ones that are priced so low and the more collectors that keep buying them up and hiding them away they will become harder and harder to find and the price cant do anything but go up

If you can find these dates in MS grades and you can afford them you can always buy them now and upgrade them at a later date just in case they do happen to go up in price like I mentioned that way you will atleast have an example of them even if you are always looking for an affordible upgrade. I have found that if I have the coin that fills th hole I am not in a big hurry to buy another one unless it is just a good deal in a good grade to upgrade the one I already have, but if I am missing that coin I seem to be eager to fill the hole and sometimes may a little more than I was wanting to just because I needed that specific date/mint coin
Rest in Peace

This thread makes me think I should dig into my closet and get out my Morgans. Haven't looked at them for years.

While attending college in a small Colorado town in the 1960's I would go to the bank from time to time and pick up a few rolls of silver dollars. I often kept the New Orleans and Carson City mints.

This was during the time that the Government cleaned out thousands of their silver dollars and they ended up in banks across the country.

Even though I was a collector then, I had no idea what a gold mine those silver dollars would have been had I hoarded a bunch. Instead, I think I only kept a little over 20.

Will have to look one day soon, and share what I find with Coin Community. Maybe some of our Morgan experts can tell me the value of what I saved.

I would think that any of the CC's are going to be worth something. From the very low grades on up. There will always be collectors who want the good coins but can't afford it. And a beat up rare coin is better than no rare coin at all. I think all of the grades are going to be a wise purchase.

Don't mistake "popularity" with "value." As Bryan mentioned, some years can be had very reasonably, and it's very easy to overpay for a CC Morgan.

I understand about overpaying. But, if you can get it at the right price, no matter what the condition is, I feel this is a coin you can't go wrong with....

Absolutely. You can't go wrong with a CC Morgan, of any issue. The only problem with overpaying is how long you'll have to sit on it to profit, because the price will definitely catch up sooner or later. SuperDave says Strong Buy.

You got that right, brother :)

Kerry67 if you're interested in buying these just because you think they're going up in value, don't forget there's other semi-key dates that are always in demand. 03-o, 99-p, and of course pretty much anything from 93 94 or 95. If you get a good buy on a semi key I'd be just as fast to purchase that as I would a CC.
Just my 2c...
