crf, chill... the word COPY is stamped on the replicas. Come on now, you really think this has any impact on anything?

Have you seen any in your travels where an elderly gentleman paid for a VG grade example.worn just enough to obliterate the COPY the dumb law makers of the USA say is allowed......but that is right.....no one would go to that trouble to make a few bucks........dont tell me to chill..............keep the laws below the border, we will keep ours....

If you want the law changed then instead of ignoring it, you lobby and vote for change.

As it stands that coin is an illegal copy in Canada. Not misdemeanor illegal either, criminal code illegal. I believe that coin and it's ilk are bad for the hobby and you don't. I'm OK with that difference in opinion.

I have no desire to change your mind.

Best regards

I suppose if I put the coin in the dryer for a day... maybe. You guys may have a point.

I'll see what I can do.

Sorry Steve, I must have been reading everything crossed-eyed yesterday. I'm even worse now (tax day!) so I'll just stop trying to figure out which one I was reading where

hhb, the site owners are practicing 'safe surfing' - sounds like your link was leaning toward something that could catch a youngster by surprise. We have a lot of young ones here, so it would probably be best to keep the majorly-adult-themed items under cover(s).

And lastly...

A lot of people in other countries, not just the US, collect Canada coins and/or or understand the law(s). Some may not know the law and so they ask questions. Whether they choose to learn or not.. well, let's just say the Americans definitely don't have a corner on that market.

crf,

I recruited my wife to incorporate my COPY into our daily laundry machines in order to accelerate aging. I can't think of any other way... other that having the replica in my pocket but that would take too long.

It is a very nice proof. So I need to convince myself to even touch it right now.

Anyway, I'll try to get the best "fake" I can with it and take scans along the way. ...

You put the coin in a rock tumbler with varying decreasing grits and end with 6000-9000 grit equivalent. Takes about a day. Put the coin into a ziplock bag with pennies and shake for five minutes. Partially saturate an envelope with sulphur drops from the health store and let the envelope dry. Put the coin in the envelope and tape it to a sunny window for a month turning once a week.

Remove coin.

Cry.

Well Frazzle, apparently you have been lucky enough never to have been involved in a scenario where a young or inexperienced collector has been duped. It appears it has something to do with being American to be sarcastic on a thread about Canadian Coins.....sleep well...we only burned the White House down once......ROFL

Alright guys don't get so personal really. Keep it all in perspective. There's room for different viewpoints on almost any topic. I may be passionate about it but I stick to the facts pertaining to the law. After all, lots of people don't like this law or that law. That's why we have prisons and guys named Bubba who look for company in their cells.
