Multiple reports pushes it up the list of priorities. Do your part to keep the Canadian replicas off ebay. I report every one I see and have had two auctions killed this week myself. I like that the RCMP got onto ebay about this, there is usually no argument about getting a replica sale pulled. He's already sold 3 ... dirty bugger. [eBayItem]200290462807[/eBayItem] Report at http://www.ebay.com/ccw Reason: It is illegal to sell replicas of Canadian coinage - pure and simple. This includes everything from 1858 including Maritime coins.

I don't see the issue. It says COPY on the coin.

kyrio, doesn't matter if it says copy or not, this is Canada, it's illegal to produce, sell, distribute or even posses copies of Canadian coins. Would matter if it was painted neon pink.

Illegal to sell (or own) a copy of Canadian coin in the United States? Hmmm...probably not. But it is against ebay policy.

I'm not trying to reach Canuck law into the US... What does happen though is that ebay is listing this for sale in Canada and thus aiding and abetting. That's why it's against their policy, it leaves them criminally liable. If one American wants to sell it to another and the sale isn't available in Canada then I wouldn't even even see it at ebay dot ca. That's still against their policy though it doesn't leave them as easily open to prosecution. It's still illegal for ebay to allow a non Canadian sale since they have a corp presence in Canada and have agreed to abide by the rules of the land. Oh I imagine the police could ask the seller be extradited to Canada but it's not likely to happen unless he was trying to pass them as real or producing them himself. Edit the forum automatically changes ebay dot ca to ebay dot com

The USA honours Canadian law as Canada honours USA law. We here in Canada have better laws to prevent counterfeiting than the USA. It is illegal. Bottom line.

For the record, I believe the listing should be pulled. The seller (The Maryland Mint) should be quite aware of the laws involved, and ebay's policy. Reported. This is absolutely not permitted ... by ebay policy and by law.

No one is saying the nations laws apply to each other. That's why you have to get an extradition order in the event you want to apply your law to a foreign national such that he or she may be prosecuted under the foreign nations legal system. Trust me, if I were pounding out 100 dollar yank notes on my backyard press and selling them on ebay the secret service would be pushing the US AG to make an extradition application even if I just sold them as "perfect replicas" "filler notes" or "make believe money"

My only point is that it I don't believe it is illegal for a business or individual who resides (solely?) in the US to sell one of those to someone else in the US. Quote: Nothing wrong with this auction At a minimum, it is against ebay policy. And possibly illegal for ebay to host the auction, since they do business in Canada.

Sorry Frazzle if you think the auction is OK. You are certainly entitled to think as you wish and I don't mind one way or the other. Canadians have worked hard to keep copies and replicas of Canadian coins off auction sites to try and stem the flow and distribution of knock offs. It works because our laws about coinage are strongly worded. The RCMP have directly intervened with ebay to make sure they understand their corporate liability in this matter and thus action is taken when needed. If you want to go to China and buy replicas, I wouldn't complain to anyone. If however you set up shop in Canada ( ebay has) and try to sell them or assist others in selling them, I'm going to say something about it. If it stops just one guy stumbling into my house and saying "Look at this beauty" then I'm all for it.
