Carson City Mint

cwb8539...if my memeory serves me, I believe the Collection in the Carson City Mint (the one in Johnny Countdown's photo where he is trying to reach past the bars) has 107 of the 109 possible Carson City coins. That is about as complete as we are ever going to see. It is missing the 1873 no arrows dime and I think one variety of quarter. But I will tell you, it is one incredible collection and it takes your breath away if you understand how amazing it is. The Mint is well worth the trip.

As you know, Nevada is the "silver" state, and due to the amount of silver mining that went on there, they deemed it necessary to build a mint, to" Mint coins, and also to find a way to protect the silver from robbers. They didn't have "FEDEX, or UPS" then, LOL. :-)

I think you are right. I live twenty minutes away and I haven't been there in years. How pathetic is that?!

After looking at Johnny's pictures and looking at the Red Book. It does look like they are missing the 1873-CC No Arrows dime and the 1873-CC No Arrows quarter. I'm sure both are beyond the budget of even the State (especially with the State's current fiscal woes!). It looks like they have an 1873-CC No Arrows half since they have two halves on the 1873 line.
