Prethen has a really nice axial setup. He uses beamsplitter glass (Google that for some interesting info) and gets superb results. Me, I use regular glass, and find that varying the angle of the glass affects the results - there's a "sweet spot" where the light is concentrated. I get my best results by keeping that sweet spot just off the edge of the coin - right on it, and the shot washes out.
