Reading over the Trade dollar thread going on, I'm sensing that the fakes are getting better. I want to get updated on how good the fakes really are now. Does anyone have pics of really good fakes of any coin they'd like to share?

These aren't high quality, but I have two of these SBA's that are conterfeit. I originally posted them to ask about the doubling. It was suggested that they were conterfeit, so I weighed them and they were way off. As mentioned in another thread, I have recently sent in a Trade dollar to ANACS because it is suspected to be a conterfeit as well. CCF has helped me tremendously in learning about this kind of stuff.

A little different than the other Trade dollars I posted... In the left corner, weighing in at 370 Grains, we have the 76-S Counterfeit Trade dollar. It was bought as a fake... didn't have that typical darkness around the devices so it is one I wanted for learning purposes.

wow thanks all! I'm going to save these images and use them for the class next semester. I'll make sure to give acknowledgements! Wow oimcoins! Is that really fake? I would have never guessed. Those fakes are looking really good now! and jprine, does that SBA have a copper core? It looks like it's just made out of copper and someone plated it...

Excellent learning material in the post link above - the coin was sent to Swamperbob for his expert analysis, in addition to other great information on what to look for on these and other coins in general.

To me the scariest one is the chopmarked piece from TDCOLL in the fake ANACS slab. If they fixed the detail loss problem it would probably pass most peoples inspection.

I will say that fake slab looks pretty scary.

I have a fake Morgan that looks real. If it weren't for the "coin" sticking to a magnet and there not being a "cc" for that year it would be hard to tell. I bought it as a regular Morgan and when I received it in the mail I discovered it was a fake "cc". The weight is just slightly off but not enough to tell holding it in your hand.I bought it off of ebay so I just chalked it up as a live and learn experience...
