Do you know if the story I was told is true that people use to cut them
down like that to fool vending machines into thinking it was a dime?
I have always been fascinated by the things that people do to coins in the past. The story of the 1883 Liberty "V" nickel being called the
"Racketeer" nickel and the things people did to it is one of the
reasons when I see nice example of one I have to buy it.
have never run across one with the gold coating still on it yet though.
