About 2 hours ago, I read this thread http://goccf.com/t/47340If any of you have read any of my posts - I have been packing up the coins to put in storage until I return from Alaska. (ex wife, no need to say more) After reading that post for some reason I cut open the box I had all my proofs in, pulled out the 98 set and OMG is this what I think it is. Holding breath for responses - Please tell me my eyes are ok - Peace Brent

amazing! I hope that large dark spot on the reverse is on the holder or the the way the light is reflecting. Guess I am off to the local dealers to look at their proof sets, now. LOL Jim

Quote: someone here is going to come one and tell me why its not a CAM at any moment. Oh, I'll be the one to do that. It may or may not be CAM. CAM is an abbreviation for "cameo", and it has to do with the reflectivity of the proof. There is no generally accepted abbreviation for " Close AM", although some folks call it CLAM.

I still cant believe it - if I wouldn't have read Thads thread I probably would have never found it. The way I packed them up it probably would have been 10 or more years before I were to reopen the box. Thank you SilentAsian4Hire for opening up a thread that was last posted on 10/18/09 - I am telling you - I would not have even looked at that set if I wouldn't have read that thread. Any suggestions on what to do with it? (besides sending the coin to your house for closer inspection ) Was going to call NGC this Morning - Might just wait until I get back from Alaska. Jim1953 - the dark spot is shading - from what I have seen (although hard to do under scratched plastic) I see only one visible mark on the Obv. and none on the rev. Wont know for sure until it gets cracked out. Truly my best find - Peace Brent

Just got off the phone with NGC and this is what I was told. They do recognize the 1998 Close AM and for an additional $10.00 they will label it that way. If I join for $109.00, I would receive 5 free grades per year. (that seems cheaper to me than $25 - $40 per grade that I hear people talk about) Plus get some other benies. They also recommend me cracking it out of the case before sending it in unless I want all 5 coins graded. That to me seems like the coin could and would get damaged at least have the possibility to have happen. I didn't ask if I could still send in the pack and have them open it instead of me. My bad I think I will at least sign up for a year and get some of my other coins graded. Anyone here ever send in a proof pack and just get 1 coin graded? Will they open the pack? Thanks for all the comments on my find. Peace Brent
