Just had a questian I collect the NZ kiwi dollar and NZ post have them and they are a little bit more expensive there then Downies but they have not got them in also I notice that the number that are being minted is smaller. So my questian is should I what to see if downies will get them or should I just buy it at the higher price.I know that in the past downies was about 10 dollar cheaper but I am worried they may not get them. But I know there are alot of you how deal with downies and would you what on them or just buy it now.
I know there is a strange questian but needed advice. I am just looking for the UNC silver dollar and the mintage this year is 5000 and last year it was 10,000. Do you think if I emailed downies and asked them about them they would know if they would be getting them or not.

Also wanted to give Abyss a heads up since I know that he bought the last two. here is the link.

Not sure if anyone responded to your question. But I think Downies has these dollars available now. They were listed in their July 2006 catalogue "Money" for AU$49.95 or US$39.95. Catalogue says they were struck at the Royal Australian Mint but this is incorrect. They were struck at the Perth Mint same as the 2005 issue. The 2004 Kiwi issue was struck at the RAM in Canberra.

Each Mint that strikes New Zealand coinage seems to have their own distinctive obverse design - usually the placement of the text and date in relation to the Queen's head is different and/or the text and date have different font styles for different mints.

The mintage is 2000 for the proof and 5000 for the BU, the 2004 and 2005 both had a mintage of 5000 proof and 10000 for the BU. I don't know if that is how main were sold but that is what the max mintage was. and here is tha link for both form downies.
proof https://www.downies.com/northameric....asp?id=2604

BU https://www.downies.com/northameric....asp?id=2605

Just make sure you save one of the BU for me.lol

Just bought my UNC kiwi last night. It looks like the price has gone up on them. they are now selling them for 43.75. I am not sure if they are selling them for so much more then last years because of the the low mintage or not. But got mine ordered can't what to get it in a few weeks.

New Zealand's coins since 1999 has the legend reversed with 'NEW ZEALAND' being behind the Queen's portrait with 'ELIZABETH II' in front. It is the same story no matter which mint is striking the coins. The new coins that were struck at the Royal Canadian Mint in Winnipeg also have this legend placement.

Hi djluster,

That is a lovely coin. Have you bought any other New Zealand silver coins? If so, are you able to post pictures of them? By the way, do you know if the coins have sold out yet, because that is an incredibly small mintage figure, especially for the proof!

Hi djluster,
Glad you got your Kiwi $1. They are nice coins and the series is an interesting return to the large silver dollar New Zealand had prior to the introduction of the small circulating Aluminium Bronze dollar in 1990. You will notice that the placement of the date under QE2's head/bust varies depending on the Mint the coins have been struck at. This may not be the case with all issues since 1999 when the Ian Rank-Broadley image of the Queen was introduced by is true for many.

Are you collecting any of their other silver one dollar or five dollar issues? They also have some have the large dollar in Aluminium Zinc Bronze, Aluminium Copper Nickel and Nickel Brass (not sure if that is same as previous). I recently got both the 2005 Lions Tour of NZ Stirling Silver (Reverse Frosted) Proof and Nickel Brass Brilliant Unc 38.61mm diameter dollars and the 2006 Queen's 80th Birthday Pure Silver Proof 40mm dia. and Aluminium Zinc Bronze Brilliant Unc 38.74mm dia. dollars. They all look very impressive.

As for mintage figures, they often show the Mintage Limit with the actual mintage much less. For example the 2004 Kiwi brilliant unc had an actual mintage from the Royal Australian Mint of only 2,500 (limit 10,000) while the proof was only 1,502 (limit 5,000).

That is good info to know. And no I am currently not collecting anything other the a few circulated examples. I am just sticking with the 1 dollar silver kiwi dollars, but with that said I do have silver bullion dollars from all over the world. I am alos gald to here about the acually number minted. do you have the 2005 numbers.

I am sure the Reserve Bank of New Zealand would be able to provide the mintage for 2005. As the coins were minted at the Perth Mint, I am not sure if they will give out the details unlike the Royal Australian Mint with their Annual Reports (these cover 1st July of one year to 30th June of following year, so sometime one needs to consult two reports to get a mintage for a particular denomination/coin/set).

Also the Perth Mint may have minted the total Mintage Limit but the RBNZ may not have issued all of the mintage. I will see what I can find out.

What will you do now that the Royal Australian Mint is only issuing a 2007 Brilliant Uncirculated Kangaroo dollar in Copper Nickel? They have a silver proof issue. And the RAM have struck some in pure silver for a dealer who has them for AUS$48.00 with delivery around October. The dealer's email is intnumis@bigpond.com.au in case you want to make an enquiry about the 2007 Aussie silver dollar - International Numismatics at https://www.intnumis.com.au

I think I may not set it and just stick with the Lunar and the Kookuburra silver dollars
