Are you suggesting rarity has slanted their grading estimate Peter? Surely not!

I agree, it's overgraded. FAIR would be a more accurate grade. A true FINE specimen would indeed be worth £6,000. However, this is a case of overgrading to generate more money for the auction house. Your thoughts?

1877-Great-Britain-Large-Penny---Large-Date-Or-Small-Date

To dcreek1968, Above is a pic of the 1877 Narrow Date, that is for sale on my website. It is one of the better examples of this excessively rare coin!

Hi, I have a One Penny 1977 not in as good condition as the picture above. My nan gave it to me along with a full jar of coins and said her mother gave them to her. I have more coins and I need advice on them. This is my first post on any forum. Sorry if I've done anything wrong :)

Can I first just check, is your penny 1877 or 1977? That will make a difference!

Then I should warn you that coins stored in jar sound like ones that have just been picked out of change. Generally the coins in such 'collections' are quite worn and not worth a great deal.

However if you can post a photo (of both sides - you might need to put each side in separate posts if they are too big) that would help everyone give you much better advice.

I have managed to dig both variants of the 1879 penny.
Here is a photo showing the spacing between the date.
