My bad for assuming these were coming from a dealer.

For a 5 minute drive, I'd pack my scales and loupe and least go have a look. If some of them turn out to be real, make her a fair offer. And of the coins that are fake, make her a really cheap offer (like those companies you hire to haul away trash - meaning she pays you - LOL!) and get them off the streets before she accidentally sells them to someone else who doesn't know.

Here is my take on it: there are a group of coins that are definitely fake (about 60%) of them, and then there are some coins that MIGHT be real (about 40% of them).

This could be a real can of worms for both of you. Her story sounds as fake as her "coins". Be very careful, and do whatever the right thing is.

Way too many fakes! Why is there no action being taken by authorities? Some of us have enough knowledge to stay away and even comment, but there are many who believe they are real. Has any one actually tested these for toxicity or what the metal content is? Is this know a new topic?

Fcrazo, I am just crazy about your avatar.

The 1936 Bridgeport Connecticut commemorative carries a portrait of PT Barnum on its obverse. You know what he would say about this don't you!
That plus the term 'caveat emptor' pretty much sums up the situation.
As long as there is a demand, there will be a supply, (be it genuine or not).

No reference to you jedichef. You displayed common sense by your apparent wariness.

sight unseen,(for the most part) I would buy them as all fake.
After seeing them "in hand" upgrading an offer to fit the reality of the coins would be in order.

I wonder how long "awhile" is. A few weeks? These fakes haven't been around for more that a few years. I would run away.

Agreed, most of those have only been around for about ten years or less. The one exception is the indian head which is pushing twenty

They all very similiar to the ones I just posted under "buyer beware". If they don't feel right, aren't the correct weight, or have the right ping when dropped they are fake.

If I was selling some coins and the potential buyer dropped them to see if they were silver, I would be pretty upset!

i have a gram scale, that measures in 0.01g increments. I felt it would be more polite to weigh rather than drop.

also, I've not seen the coins in hand yet. only pics via email. I only plan on looking at the "least fakey" looking ones. however, I don't have high hopes.
