Well I looked for it, even, since I caught wind that the metal composition of the loonies and toonies will change in the year 2011, along with the change from paper to polymer. I only just got them yesterday but I hope they don't lose their lustre as fast as the 2010 Inukshuk loonie. So anyways, it seems that the mint has abandoned the mintmark, yet the metal composition is due to change. It's leading me to believe that maybe they've already started the nickel-plating.

you're right, I remember hearing that in the budget speech. I find that the coins I've received in change and haven't touched for a week (and wiped them after the last time I touched them to remove skin oils) have nonetheless had fingerprints become embedded into the metal. Is that a result of possibly new composition or did all loonies tend to do this?

I am predicting that this new Navy Coin will be a very sought after coin and hoarded by the masses! I have ten coming my way,and am going to be putting them in a safe place.

Hmmm It'll be tough to tell the difference between bronze plated nickel and bronze plated steel. I guess the steel would be slightly more attracted to a magnet?

There will probably be a slight difference in weight too.

Pardon me, the Caribou not Elk. As a kid growing up on Lake Ontario, there were always Canadian coins in stores. We'd collect them and call them "Beavs", "Sails", "Elks", and "Leaves". Rarely saw a 50 cent or dollar coin. How quickly we regress to earlier ideas.

I got mine in the mail. Not what I was expecting. I guess you get what you pay for.

I received mine last night. They aren't in rolls, they're enclosed in a plastic strip with 5 individual airtight pockets. Maybe it's the plastic, I haven't really looked at them that closely yet, but it seems they have nowhere near the luster of the dollars I've found in circulation.

Hi. I am looking for a roll of these when I come to Vancouver from overseas next week. Anyone know which banks are distributing them? I am staying in Whiterock and Nanaimo. I missed out on the Free shipping offer from the mint. Any suggestions. Thanks
Kevin
