Hi Everyone I am Des,
I am new to the coin collecting world, I found this site and was thankful there is somewhere I can go to get a better understanding of coins. I have a Canadian 2006P magnetic penny it is in really nice condition I can not send pictures at this time but it looks like the one posted by windchimes with no dark marks. Are they a very collectable coin?

Welcome to the forums. The Canada 2006P cent is a fairly rare find. The coin has a mintage of 233,000. As for value...in MS-63 Red Circulated the value is $5.00. Here is a great website to use with your Canadian Coins. Good lists for varieties and values: http://coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.phpHope that helps and keep searching. Post pictures whenever you can. Pictures make it much easier for members to give their opinions on your coins. I find it best to put my pictures on photobucket.com and then to link the picture to this forum. Hope to hear about other finds you make in the future. Have a good day.

Quote: I just found (1) 2004P magnetic penny, there is nothing about a maganetic 2004P penny at that link you gave to me. How would I find out about this one. For the Canadian coins...the "P" mark stands for plated. These coins have a multi-ply plated steel core. All coins marked with the "P" should be magnetic. If you find a coin with the "P" composition mark and it is not magnetic...please post it here. :-) For Canadian coins...the "P" is a composition mark and not a Mint Mark like on USA coins. The "p" is used to designate a multi-play plated steel core. I hope that helps you. The 2006P cent that you mentioned earlier carries a premium as it has a low mintage of 233,000 coins.

in 2006 and 2009...there are non-magnetic and magnetic versions of the coins with the maple leaf mark. From my findings...both are very common.
In 2006 - current (2006 has 5 different varieties to look for: 2006 P - Rare, 2006 no P no Maple Leaf non-magnetic, 2006 No P No Maple Leaf Magnetic - Rare, 2006 Maple leaf non-magnetic and 2006 Maple leaf Magnetic)...the cents were marked with the maple leaf. There have been non-magnetic versions of the Canada 2007 cent reportedly found in circulation. I have not yet found one. I check every 2007 with a magnetic.
I have also heard that there may be a 2008 non-magnetic out there as well. I'm not sure if this has been verified or not. I still check each with a magnet as I find them.

There are apparently 6 different varieties. 2006 P (magnetic) 2006 P (non-magnetic)
I learned that on this forum last week, and sure enough there are 6 varieties listed in Trends.

Thank you splatto. I thought the 2006P non magnetic was still just a rumor. I have only found 2 x 2006P cents so far. Both were magnetic. At my count...I'm aprox. 82,500 cents searched. I would love to get my hands on one...maybe someday.

Hi Everyone, I am Darryl and very new here. I have just obtained a 2006P Non Magnetic Canadian Penny(ICCS ms 65). Does anyone know the value of this coin? I cant find any available anywhere and I think the trends are wrong on this coin. Your input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks Darryl

Darryl, I don't have that info for you, just a thought. As this is a vey new variety I doubt there are any "trends" as such. The market is going to take some time to settle and determine an approximate vintage for that variety. You could try looking that coin up on ebay and seeing what it sells for. I hope you keep it though and don't sell it.

Thanks Two Cents Worth. I appreciate your insight. I saw two on ebay in the past couple of years and both of the listings ended early. No doubt back door deals going on. I have no intentions on selling the coin I just want to find the value of it. I am so excited about this one. Any iformation is welcomed.

I have searched 100,000 cents and not a single 2006p.The non-magnetic variety is definitely an extremely rare curio.
