I operate on a simple principle: if the coin is either rare or in fantastic condition, it stands to reason that someone in the past sent it in to get graded. Therefore, if a coin that should be in a slab is presented raw the only question that should go through your mind these days is "why not?" Having said that, if you can stomach the likely answer even if you don't see the flaw yourself and like the coin at what you consider a fair price, then go for it. Just don't have any illusions. There is rarely a free lunch in collectibles.

I would avoid these guys, anyone who uses trickery AKA. "Professional Photography" in their photos to represent the coin in a way that is not realistic does not deserve my business. There are plenty of people who represent their coins honestly and realistically whom I would rather do business with.

I have bought many coins from GSC.I would have to say, about half the coins were as good as the pics, but none very bad.I have never returned one to them.I look carefully at the pics, and buy with what I see,in mind.

Interesting, thanks Brewzz! I considered making a purchase from them, but after looking at a few auctions, decided the coins I was looking at were probably overpriced and wrote them off. After seeing your experience and the experience of others on here, I may at some point in the future bid on something they offer as a last resort if I absolutely HAVE to have it and don't mind paying a premium because of that.

Bought a coin from GSC several months ago. They advertised the coin as Choice BU +++. Anyways, won the coin and immeadiately sent to NGC. Coin came back AU Details, Improperly Cleaned.
Was a disappointed because it came back cleaned most of all but because it didn't even make MS details that made things even worst.
In my opinion, Choice BU +++ means at least MS63.
Well you learn the hard way sometimes. I still wonder how GSC gets so many bidders and many times they get very good prices on their raw coins?

I have bid on a buffalo coin from them once. They advertised as BU+ and I figured more like AU since I've heard about their photographing attributes. I won that coin for a very nice price and was happy with it in hand and what I paid for it.
But you do have to be careful on what you bid on from them and weigh that with how much they want.

I had read some less than stellar reviews of them before, so I was suspicious, but they had a quite nice looking mid-grade coin at a reasonable price one day, so, with some fear, I decided to go for it. The coin arrived looking exactly like the photo. My grade agreed with theirs, no hidden defects the photo failed to reveal, and they were really fast shipping the coin out. Maybe I just got lucky, but I have to say I am satisfied.

I think you got lucky, unfortunately. They're notorious photo buffers/exaggerators.

Perhaps it wasn't entirely luck but what I was buying. I make no attempt to hide the fact that I'm on the way low end of the collecting spectrum ($5 for a single coin is a lot, in my book). I suspect for the kinds of coins I buy, it's just not worth the effort to engineer a photo.

Well THAT may be true, I imagine they only do it for anything over $50 or so for the most part. Those auctions are what I see the most because while I buy a lot of 'smaller' time stuff for resale, my collector coin range is more around $500-$1000

I am concerned with buying from them online because their photos look like mine after I've played around with contrast etc. but I actually live maybe 2 hours from them. I will have another reason to visit that city in November so I will probably go to their physical location and buy something. Hope they aren't snobs.

One of their feedback comments "9 of 12 coins received NGC graded altered or below described grade." So you have a 75% chance a coin from them will be altered or graded well below what they said.

Have never dealt with them, but those pictures are so juiced that I would tend to avoid them altogether.
