Hi Aidan,

I knew you were serious, but I just love the idea of it. Being able to declare yourself independent of Australia. I just wish I could do it!

Thanks for the article, it was interesting. I didn't know the reason behind it all was wheat quotas!

I also grab a New Zealand coin now and then as they too offer some interesting commemoratives that other countries wouldn't even consider. Not to mention the quality is fantastic! I believe the "Ring" is one of the most attractive silver coins I have ever held in my hand and I recently added the "lion" from Narnia for my little guy! Probably one of the neatest NZ coins I got my hands on was the Royal Visit of 2001 which DID NOT happen due to the 9/11 terrorists attacks. NZ released the coins just the same and they were very limited. Tried to get another later but prices had doubled so I still have just the one. Believe, if memory serves me correctly, that only 4,000 were made?

That's a pretty coin Snooba. I love the coins of New Zealand and Australia. I collect coins from everywhere but favor coins from places I've been. I spent a couple of months, twice, traveling around both countries and enjoyed the food, beer, people, and amazing scenery.

Snooba you can tell that little guy of yours a REAL buffalo hunter from the good ole USA who is filled with Hoosier (Indiana) hospitality is gathering up some goodies to send his way! One thing neat about kids is they will pace the floor everyday waiting for the darn mailman! Let me know when they arrive!!!

Snooba & Terry,I don't chase New Zealand coins in a big way.I've never really liked the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's issuing policy. They're putting out far too many medal-coins,especially in Proof only.I like the Aussie idea of having a commemorative coin that you can actually find in circulation.Other British Commonwealth countries such as Canada,India,& South Africa have been issuing circulating commemorative coins for many years now.

Aidan,

Do you have many of the Australian commemorative coins made for circulation? Are there any in particular that you haven't managed to get? Because I have heaps of them, I'm something of a hoarder! I can send you any that I have doubles of.

Snooba,I have quite a few,but I will need to make a list of what I have got.Money's a bit tight these days.I've been out boozing & having big meals on a Tuesday night for the past 6 weeks,as there's a quiz night at an Irish pub I go to.It is better to buy booze than to be an idiot who wastes their money on either drugs or cigarettes.

Snooba has placed the 2006 Royal Visit 50 cent piece smack dab in the heart of the U.S. (Indiana) It will be safe here for years and years and very very well taken care of! Appreciate your help with this and do hope you enjoy the goodies and huge BUFFALO headed your way by Turtle freight!

I am just glad that the Indiana Coin Orphanage was able to shelter another poor, homeless, helpless little lonely coin!

The Indiana Coin Orphanage will open its doors to those coins in need and provide the care and shelter that is deserved on a continuing basis throughout the life of the coin. Its a huge committment but one I am willing to make!

He is so excited, that if I'm not careful, this forum may just end up with another Buffalo Collector! Especially since I showed him the photo of you and your little collector that is posted in the main coin forum. You know what boys are like, the combination of a gun and costumes won him over immediately!
