Found this one last year... Thought it was cool, but not cool enough to save. I ended up spending it at the coin shop, pretty sure I bought some Mercury dimes with it. Didn't think to take a better picture...

Congrats!
According to the BEP production reports, your note was printed in August 1989.

I haven't found a small portrait 20 in a LONG time. There was a 2001 CB-G $20 in the mix of bills withdrawn from the ATM today, but I haven't seen a small portrait 20 from a bank in ages.

Quote: I haven't found a small portrait 20 in a LONG time. Yeah, the last small portrait large bill I remember finding personally.. was actually counterfeit. A 50 note, several months ago.

Well it would be very easy to create a counterfeit 50 if you make it a small portrait, as the counterfeiter would only have to take a legitimate dollar, bleach it, and reprint it on a 50 dollar bill. If it's dated before 1990, there would be no security strip, and it would pass the pen test since it's on legitimate currency paper.

Well, as it turns out my memory is unreliable; I'm looking at it now, and I was thinking it was a small portrait because it had no security strip. It's a Series 2009, and it's just awful. It's bleeding in spots, print is hardly what you'd call fine, and the cut is outside the printed edge. I am not sure if I would do well to not post a photo of it, let alone possess it..

I finally got one... and it wasn't even from the bank! The ice cream store I frequent had a 1995 $20 in the mix of probably 500 dollars other customers had spent earlier in the day, so I obviously traded that one out! Now that I have an old style 20 to hang on to, I can finally get rid of the NCBH 20s I've been holding on to for about a month now!

The oldest I have found is a 1969 B $1 bill. Several years ago, I was with my Dad at home depot and we overhears the cashiers talking about a "old bill". He offered to buy it, and it turned out to be a 1935 f $1.

Good for you Grant from NJ (Coincollector110)! I've only ever found three small-head bills in natural circulation (no trades):
1969 $5, K..A block 1990 $20, L..A block 1995 $5, F..E block

Wow, that's one you don't see often. Awesome!
What are your plans for it? Personally if I had the means I'd keep it until I could afford an upgrade.

Haven't seen an old $5 for a long time, either. Nice.
That $50 is amazing. It must have been in a drawer for a long time.

No pics yet, but I will as soon as I have them. I went to the bank today, and the teller there had a stack of old bills for me. Unfortunately, the bank line was quite long and it was near closing. So I simply did not have enough time to look through the stack. I quickly pulled a 1934 A $5 out of it. From what I saw, there must have been over $500 face value of 1934's and 1950 series $20 and $10 bills for the most part. Some $5's as well. The kind teller there said she will save them for me, and I could look through the stack Monday and handpick notes I want to keep! Maybe there are 1928's or star notes in there? Many of these notes unfortunately will be shredded, so I am glad I will be able to at least save a few from the wild.
