I missed the midnight rush again. Oh well, when you wake up, here's my first guess for today. I'm practically playing a random guess game as I am lost trying to follow everyone else's strategies.

Alright, I doubt I'm going to win this one, for some reason I just can't seem to even get started. At least I might be able to help out others. Here's my second guess of the day.

Sorry about the delay. Did you think I was looking for the flags? Quote: HRK, IDR, HNL, HTG, UAH, SPL, SOS, KMF, SGD, HUF 0/0! Got side-tracked looking for a zinc/copper penny sorting design.

Yeah, I was really expecting those flags to fly. Did you find what you were looking for? I'm not too up on my Lincoln Cent varieties so I really can't help, but I'm always interested in more information to help me with them. About 10% of the pennies I get are American and I've only kept the best one of each year (P,D, and the rare S). I know to look for WAM and check each one for obvious doubling, but otherwise I am lost.

About mid-way 1982, they switched from copper to zinc cents and had a design change. I'm trying to find/build something that will sort them quickly. 1982 is a real mess. They had zinc/copper with Large/Small dates for P & D mints creating 7 different types/varieties for that year. Yes, 7. Somehow, a small date copper for the D mint doesn't exist . Anyway, trying to find something that I can just dump a box of cents and have it sort the coppers from the zincs.

oh yeah I know about that 1982 penny, in my whitman book there are so many spaces for them so I i keep all the 82's I get and now I have like 30 or so. But I have no way of finding out if they are zinc or copper I separated the large dates and small dates but I cant find a place with a scale. I dont really want to buy an expensive scale and only use it one time lol.

I picked up a cheap digital scale for like $10 on ebay and it comes in handy all the time! You want one that goes to .01 grams. There are a couple of other ways besides a scale. You can drop them on a counter from about a height of 2 inches. The coppers will "ring" and the zincs will "thud". Another thing you can do is a popsicle stick test. Find a known copper (pre '82) and place it at the end of the stick and lay the stick on the counter with coin end just at the edge. Slowly slide the popsicle stick toward the edge until you find the tipping point and the coin falls off. Mark the popsicle stick with a line where the edge of the counter is. Line the stick up to the edge of the counter every time and place the next cent on it. If it tips, it's copper, if it's zinc the stick will support it and it won't fall! Besides obvious doubling or other errors, here is a quick checklist of Memorial cents to keep an eye out for: '60 - Large and Small Date/P & D mints '70-S - Small date (highly sought after) '72 - check them all really close. There is a DDO that's hard to detect but worth a ton! '74 - Small and Large date (not sure if there is a small/large for '74-S), but all are common and not worth anything other than having the different varieties '82 - discussed above (all common, not worth much, again, just all the combos) '83 - make sure you weigh every one, looking for a copper one at 3.11 grams (worth a ton!) '88 - reverse of '89 - best diagnostic is the designer's initials on the back (basically a WAM, P mint scarce, D mint extremely rare) '92 CAM's other than the WAM's ('98 & '00 seem easiest to find, '99 is very scarce, and supposedly an extremely rare '96 exists) that's all I can think of for now.
