Just wondering if there are any pattern collectors out there, or anyone who has patterns. I was looking through heritage's archives, and went looking through the patterns. I almost had a notion to start collecting those. There are really some beautiful coins.
If you do have any patterns, could you please post pics? Thanks! Jordan Edited by jdheyne 08/03/2006 4:58 pm

same here. Most if not all patterns are way out of my price range. They are really beautiful for those who can actually afford them.

Yes, there is one example that I have. It is still unknown how rare this trial "coin" can supposed to be. Struck on two seperate brass planchets, it seems to be a trial version of this particular coin: http://www.cbr.ru/eng/bank-notes_co...um=5009-0001What should be noted is the denomination 100 rubles, which is usually reserved for 1/2 ounce of 900 gold, and indeed there is a sign on the left side of the basilica, which does mention it. There are NO gold rubles minted with the basilica as the reverse, hence making this pattern amazingly rare. So far, I haven't seen anything like this for the past couple of years. If anyone has come across reference that is similar to this, PLEASE do not hesistate to email me or reply to this post.

Come on, there can't be too few pattern collectors here! I'm sure there must be someone who do have at least a pattern! Doesn't have to be US pattern coins.

I would love to add a couple of Pattern Coins to my collection but, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I keep getting sidetracked with other wants and wishes! Is there an on-line location to purchase these? I'm not learned in what's available either. Can this discussion elaborate into where to find Patterns, costs, values, web sites, Collectors organizations and so forth? I, for one, need some knowledge in these. Thanks!
(Above info on non-US would be great!)

That is the thrill of collecting pattern coins. You will never know the full mintage and trial strikes of such, and it could possibly be a private fancy issue. But when you get to know that it is a genuine product, you would feel very satisified. My particular pattern is quite interesting as it seems to be genuine but is not catalogued in any books at the moment. Who knows if it does in 10, 20 or later.

I have got 3 pattern coins from the New Hebrides in my collection. They are the pattern nickel 1967 10 & 20 Francs,& the pattern silver 1966 100 Francs. The pattern silver 100 Francs was originally in the collection of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand.I first saw this coin around 5 or 6 years ago, when I was a member of the Wellington Coin Club (merged into the Royal Numismatic Society of New Zealand).Even back then,I never imagined that I would ever come across any of these coins, let alone THE coin itself! New Hebrides coins are of interest to me,as the Republic of Vanuatu (which the New Hebrides became in 1980) is a member of the British Commonwealth.
I also have a set of Provincial Bank of Ireland Specimen notes from Ulster. These are listed as a set under 'Collector Issues'.
Aidan.
