I have been a bit of a slump lately, just haven't been able to find anything really good while searching notes.

A couple of days ago I was searching through some circulated one dollar notes and I found a web note. Normally I would have been really happy, but unfortunately someone had written their name on it (in ink of course). I set it aside and continued on I came across a Barr note that had a small tear in it and was very worn... bummer. I continued on and found a note with the serial 93339333. I couldn't believe it because it was so horribly worn and mutilated I didn't even save it.

Needless to say I was a bit bummed out.

Then yesterday I picked up $400 in ones and started the search anew. This is what I found in them:

Relatively low serial, low run star note
The-Dry-Spell-Is-Over

Bookend repeater 4-847-847-4
The-Dry-Spell-Is-Over

Radar note
The-Dry-Spell-Is-Over

4 pair bookend note
The-Dry-Spell-Is-Over

And what I think is the kicker, I already had this note. Compare the serial to the last two notes I just posted. Crazy huh?

That's incredible! I don't collect notes, and even I'm impressed at those SNs.

For the last month or so I was going through this stretch where everything was just one number off. In other words I would find a radar note... oh wait one number isn't right, or a repeater... no the last two digits are reversed, etc. I was actually starting to find it funny.

Wow, very nice! Especially those last 3! I get a lot of those one-number-off/out-of-order notes too... like today: E31093910A $1

That's a nice pick up at face. You got a set started with the 6, 1, 2 radar notes.

Yeah except those are probably the last ones I will ever see

Have one more I found just a few minutes ago... I hope my one digit off streak isn't starting up again...

I have just calculated the odds of getting a near solid note (one digit off solid) in US currency. If you take into account that only 96,000,000 notes for any given block are circulated, the odds are 1 in 148,148 (naturally it is a fancy number).

And because someone will question the accuracy of that here is the breakdown in an 8 digit serial:

Only one digit can be off so there are nine chances per digit (can't be 10 because that would make it a solid)

So 8 x 9 = 72

This can happen through the numbers 0 thru 8 which is 9 times.

72 x 9 = 648

96,000,000 / 648 = 148,148.148148
