Yes jfransch....you are correct, I definitely do not have a coin like your Davignon.....there are a couple of collectors of those types over at the CU forums, and they are very proud of theirs....since you have the book and at least a few specimens, I imagine that you are the type that would take a counterfeit over a genuine coin when presented with the choice. I know the guys at CU would....... The counterfeits are scarcer, for sure. Thanks Moe, and Happy Halloween to you as well.....You hit pay dirt with that 1837 !! JR-2a (R-6).....and a very nice one at that. Quote: Just for everyone to know just what does R-6 and R-7 translate to numbers of minted coins for that die marriage? R-6 = 13 to 30 R-7 = 4 to 12 Yes Adam....I can surely tell that this is one very nice coin....and I appreciate what you are saying about the reverse......Actually, what you may see as wear on the scroll and the eagle's wing are really typical die related weak spots for that particular reverse die (not wear).....really nice coin.

First out of the box for the 38's. I love her toning. Recently acquired her in an estate sale with the thought of selling her, but romance has bloomed. My 37 is at the graders and I'll put her up when she comes home.

Thanks very much Echi.....Hope you have a safe and Happy Halloween... Paleo....what an absolutely gorgeous 1838.......I had a little trouble seeing my pups at first, (well, actually, I can see 'my' pups just fine), the the pick up points on the coin escaped me at first, but stand up very well now..... Yours is JR-3a (R-3). Quite a beauty.

Zeewool, first off happy birthday. I hope your special day was spent doing something fun! Second thank you for all the attributions on my posted coins, I really appreciate the help (and the additional help about how to make it easier to do the attributions ourselves). Thirdly, I like both the real thing and the contemporary counterfeits, my main collecting interests are Spanish Colonial and Mexican 8 reales and they are rife with contemporary counterfeits. I only have these oddball bust halves because they were easy to obtain when I was younger. But rest assured, the next ones I obtain will be high grade "real" bust halves after seeing some of the beauties on this thread. So now for some 1838s, First of the triplets Second Third

Your first one Moe is JR-2 (R-5) ......the second one is JR-6 (R-1). Thanks very much jfransch.......I have ideas about your coins, but I would really hate to say unless I was sure, and I am having a great deal of difficulty in blowing these pictures up without distortion. If you would like me to give an honest crack at them, please PM me and maybe you could get me some better high resolution pictures in an email where bandwidth is not restricted. I'll have time tomorrow. Here are the only 1838s that I am going to have time for.....they are both the same....JR-7 (R-6)....That little thing between the date and star 13 on the rim is a tiny rim Cud, and is the only one to be found on any CBH as far as I know.

A day late and a half dollar short, but I wanted to put up my 1837. Don't know what JR number or rarity factor applies. It was slabbed as AU50 by ICG after PCGS had rejected it as cleaned (that was before they started their Genuine service). I guess it was the reverse hairlines that bothered PCGS, but they are virtually invisible in hand.
