I don't search quarters ever. I went through a good 5-6 boxes and found them all containing like 50% State Quarters and the rest 65-98.... No silver, and I didn't come across any proofs either.

can anyone tell us what the situation was like back in 1964? or 1965 when we went off the silver standard? did people rush to banks and hoard? what happened? how long did it takae before little to no silver was being found in circulation? obviously the gov didnt issue a buy back program?

So many collectors turned in, or are turning in, or will turn them in, in the future, that you can find BU examples of the State Qtrs., all over the place while searching rolls. It can definately help you complete some folders !
I've only found a couple Silvers while searching though.....and they are a rare find from circulation anymore.
So, it depends on what you're wanting ......your objective.
If you're just looking for Silver, it's a lot of work with very little reward.

I remember reading somewhere that silver quarters wouldn't get accepted in a coinstar machine. If this is the case, it's probably why they'd be difficult to find via roll searching. Unless you only search customer wrapped rolls.

I think another reason is the fact that quarters are very highly circulated and handled. Much more so than cents, nickels, and dimes.

SD coinguy.....When I started collectng in 1968, silver quarters and dimes and even halves were still fairly common in circulation...maybe 10% or so. But in 1964-65 I remember my dad coming home with Morgans, Peace, Libertys from daily purchases and also remember seeing him and other use them in daily affairs. This was in Minneapolis. When we went to Cody Wyoming in 1965 for a family trip you would spend paper and only get Silver Dollars in change.
