My coin was slabbed VG-8 but had more detail, but was probably bumped down to darkness. Darker than this one. I'm guessing yours will slab, adam.

...And this coin has come back to me. In addition to the $237 I spent on it 10 years ago, I have put in another $40 to have it graded. Here is what I got back...

1889-CC-Morgan-Dollar

Thanks again for your time, enthusiasm, and interest! I have always loved the eye appeal of this coin and am glad that PCGS shares my feelings about its originality and contrast (probably what bumped it up from VG(08)).

Congrats, I think you got a pretty good grade.

This does show however how inconsistent TPG's can be on even more 'major' coin types (let alone more obscure stuff), as mine had more detail and similar color and got graded 8.

ShadowCreator: I am sorry that your more detailed specimen did not grade as high--I often hear complaints from collectors and dealers alike about how inconsistent the TPG companies are--but I also learned on this thread about how much PCGS has loosened up on Morgans in the last thirteen years or so. Maybe you can resubmit it someday. I also think that they saw mine as a VG(08) as well, and merely upgraded because of eye appeal. I have a 1916-D Mercury in an OGH that probably only deserves a VG(08), but also got a VG(10) for its amazing originality and evenness of wear. Again, these are just my guesses.

That is one nice 89-CC Adam! Glad to see you got it certified. If the day should ever come that you need to sell it, it will be a lot easier to move now that it is certified.
