As I specialize in world overdates, I'm always looking for photo reference of coins I can search for at shows. Here are some interesting examples, clockwise from upper left. If you collect overdates, Peru is an easy country to collect, even for modern issues.
  • UK 1/2d 1856/96 (with the underlying 9 inverted)
  • Norway 10 Øre, 1918/7
  • Peru 50 Sols (gold) 1962/52
  • Guatemala 1/4 Real 1842/29
  • France, Napoleon era 13/12 year

Nice! That underlying 7 is really obvious.

G'day, I like Napoleonic coins. What denomination is that An 13/12, please ?
Not quite an overdate, is the engraver's error 1811 40F "A sur coq" variety - one my favourite coins.

Hi Peter, the 13/12 is a 1 Franc coin. I haven't seen the "A sur coq" 40F coin--I'll check that out.
Coppercoins pointed out the 1/2d is more likely shows a repunched 5--and not an inverted 9.
Serves me right for taking the Heritage writeup at face value--and not using my brain.

"A sur coq" - probably came to pass on a Monday morning.
The engraver started on the privy mark, a rooster, or coq, but he put it on the wrong side.
After realizing his error, he puts the rooster where it should be, and attempts to conceal the first rooster by engraving the mintmark, "A", for Paris, over the top.
Which has the effect, of course, the the "A" has a head and a tail.
Gadoury calls this variety "A regrave sur le coq"
This link takes you to an article, en Francais, with several good pics, scroll down to page 9 -
