When and where are some coin shows in Melbourne, this month or year?
Is there a website that has them listed?

Cheers, Mairo

Try here:

Only one more show listed for 2010 and it's in Canberra, but at least you'll get a list of the ANDA Dealers in Melbourne.

Have you tried to find some coin clubs, I'm sure there must be a few in Melbourne as we have 2 here in Brisbane with monthly meetings.

The reason I ask was because I have never been to a coin show or a club. I hear you can buy/sell coins at a show. I am interested in buying coins from a show or club if they do that in clubs.. I am after good examples of penny's and I don't really trust ebay... Id like to see a coin in my hand before I buy it! I have learned my lesson the hard way!

What's it like in a coin club? Sorry for the newbie questions!

I haven't been able to attend meetings at the 2 clubs I belong to for a couple of years now, but there's roughly 20 - 30 people there each monthly meeting, they discuss anything remotely numismatic, show their latest acquisitions, have a 'topic' for each meeting where each person is encouraged to bring along any items they have that relate to the 'topic' and give a little presentation.

They have a few auctions each year, where members can supply a list of any items they want to sell, I'm not 100% sure whether this happens every three months or every 4, or maybe just twice a year. It could differ from club to club.

I think you can also take along items you have for sale to each meeting and do private deals on the night.

For the 18 or so months when I was able to attend, I did find I was pretty well the only female there. A little disconcerting at times, but on the whole every one was very friendly and willing to help in any way they could.

There's usually a light supper for a small contribution.

Get a copy of the latest Coin and Banknote magazine. It has a calender of events listed on page 54. There are a few smaller fairs still to go this year, and they are spread right across the city.
