would it not be possible to have a expert to oversee these coins when they are put on?
People have suggested that from time to time, but consider that on average they would have to review something like 20,000 new coin listing per day, seven days a week, and have to be experts in every coin series issued around the world from 600 BC through today. In short one or two people couldn't do it, you would need a team of dozens of people to cover all the auctions and to be competent in all the different series. It just isn't economically feasible. So they depend on we the collectors to be the first line of defense. We examine the auctions are report the bad apples for them to check. And I would bet even that results in thousands of reports that need to be checked each day.
