We just bought a lot of coins that are very sticky and greasy. Is there a safe way to clean them? Reading the posts they advise against cleaning but these coins are need to be cleaned. Thanks for any help.
An acetone soak should do it. About 10 minutes or so in the acetone and a rinse with distilled water and that should take care of the problem. You may need to repeat several times for heavy build up.
Wow! We have a lot of coins to clean. We just want to rid them of this sticky problem. I was hoping that we could clean several hundred at a time. Dipping rinsing and drying reusing the acetone.
It does not take a lot of acetone for each coin, nor does it take a long time.
I have never done so, but you may be able to do them in batches. Most of the ones with light contamination could be okay, but you may have to run some of the more heavily contaminated ones through again.
Boy oh boy Coin Chaser, I hope you don't have to clean all 50,000 pennies in that water jug I'd love to help you but I'm too far away Hope some of the forum's help gets you where you want to go
