Has this coin been cleaned and/or dipped in the past? It's got some rainbow toning on the obverse. Sharp details...but it just looks odd to me for some reason.

Yes, I agree. It has been dipped or otherwise cleaned.

AU55 details.

Still a great find assuming you found it out of another of those bags you've been getting.

You've assumed correctly cwb8539.

The lack of wear and the sharpness of the details on this one are what surprised me the most. It's "too shiney" imho. The luster just doesn't look right.

I agree, it's a dead giveaway.

JDLR = Just Doesn't Look Right.

Though I may not always be able to explain why, I've learned to trust that JDLR feeling, and not just with coins! LOL!
More often than not, my suspicions are well founded.

The 16 D is usually struck very well as new dies were used that year. I agree though that this coin has the look of one that has been cleaned in one way or another. That said its a very nice looking lincoln.
