I've tried masking that singers name (hint #1 - 6 characters) against the puzzle and came up with nothing legible. Taking this hint I'll go try it again with BIGJET. Wish me luck.

Quote: So it's a rap puzzle. That would explain my complete and utter confusion then. My wife knew the first clue but we are both lost on the third. My daughter will be here Thursday, can we take a time out until then ?

Your daughter probably thinks you need a timeout anyway!

ok, thanks wolf. I have tried staring at this puzzle, running different macros, summing numbers checking alphanumeric patterns, and simple linear decoding. I should have just sung to it. Some one gimme a beat and let's see what we get.
Seriously, I am enjoying the challenge but I am afraid what is common sense to the puzzle maker is nonsense to me without a magic decoder ring. But I will not give up. There is a coin at stake that is in need of a good home.

Hint # 5: The way the puzzle is set up, there can only be 9 "squares".

You probably will not be able to answer this, but I'll toss it out there anyways.
Is the answer to the grid the final answer, or will that give us a crypto-quote which will need to be solved?

Quote: that give us a crypto-quote which will need to be solved Yes. (But it's a simple substitute one. Easy.)
