So yeah....I'm new to this. I've gone through 8 or 9 rolls of LMCs today and haven't found one single San Fran penny. Not one. Whats the deal with that?

Here's the main point I think.
YOU HAVEN'T GONE THROUGH ENOUGH LINCOLN CENTS TO FIND A FRISCO MINT YET ! ......

Trust me.....if you go through enough of them, you'll start finding so many of them, that you'll become "particular" about which ones you even decide to keep !

I live in NE. Kansas, and there has never been a "shortage" of S mint Cents here. I now pitch back all of them that I find, unless they're in BU condition (now THAT'S hard to find)

Your bank will order you a full $25.00 box of these....just go and ask them to....and I guarantee you will find S mints in there !

But only going through "8 or 9 rolls" of Cents, isn't likely to net you much of anything. You go through a BOX of them, and you'll have a chance to find, not only S mints, but Indian Head cents, Wheat Cents of all dates, BU's of everything, Canadian Cents, just all kinds of things. It's just a matter of "numbers" that you search...... 8 rolls just won't cut it though !

You have the best luck in pulling keepers from the larger pool that exists out there "in the wild". The more you search.....the more you'll find. Simple as that ! ....

Good luck !

And order a box of Cents from your bank ! ....
(most of the time, the box will be "mixed" with old ones and new ones...but sometimes, though not very often, you'll get a box of all brand new ones, like all 2011 D mints or something. But 99% of the time your box will be "mixed", which is what you want.)

Man I wish I could have the luck the rest of you do. Back when I was "roll searching" I was lucky to get four or five S mint cents out of a BAG of cents (that's two boxes) and that was thirty years ago. (Louisville KY) The circulation S cents had only been out of production for 6 years at that time and they were already gone.

I agree with the others, you simply have not searched enough cents.

I dumped out 2 bank boxes $50.00 face or 100 rolls
I'm almost done about 3/4's of the way so far have pulled out 14 S marked cents from 68-74

21 wheats mostly 40's 50's with a well worn 1928 , decent 1929 and VF 1935 in the mix
4 are really beat up ran over looking now worth putting aside just mix um in with my copper cents

Exactly Condor! Most of them were hoarded because it seems EVERYBODY knew to stash S mint cents based on their past valuations. It was also "the end" of the S mint business strikes and 1931-S fever was at it's high. All those hoarded coins have slowly been released back to circulation as people discovered they really won't worth so much (like the 31-S)...... it has taken years.

I've found a few S mints, no doubt, but they are somewhat scarce here. We're not far apart, so I'm sure it's the same in Lualville.
