mindcrime1988 New Member Germany 26 Posts	Posted 01/24/2011 1:11 pm I found an old coin metal detecting near Bitburg, Germany. This area is on the southwest side of Germany. The coin is rough as you can see and I can only make out one side which is not very clear either. The diameter is 2.5cm (15/16") and thickness is 1mm. It seems to have a shield and possibly a crown on top. Any ideas? I know cleaning coins is a big no-no but in this case I do not think some cleaning would hurt. After you sent the enclosed photo, I did a little more research and found out that this particular coin was minted from 1821-1842. The coins after these dates have a different crown so I know my coin fits the earlier dates. Now if I can just make it a little more legible. I have used electrolysis before to clean items and may just try it on this coin. I know this is the safest way. Thank you again! Report this Post to the Staff
