Attached is a picture of something I found yesterday at a bank and I think this may be a clipped planchet. If so, are these common in circulation? Would appreciate any and all opinions either way. It would be easier to see what is going on with this coin if you post a better photo with the coin filling the frame. There should be a macro setting on your camera. Report this Post to the Staff

Pinenut Valued Member United States 462 Posts	Posted 01/29/2011 12:41 pm Looks like a real clipped planchet to me. The smooshed rim opposite the clip is what generally confirms its authenticity (search Blakesley effect). I wouldn't say its a common circ find especially for a 40%. I don't have a clue as to the value. I think nickels go for about $5-10. So I'd imagine that this would be worth $20 at least but that is just a number I made up. Report this Post to the Staff
