I would like to see a little more detail in the crown for a fine grade

so I grade this nickel at a very good grade with trends news at $165.

A very nice addition to your collection Meldercat.

Of course this is only my opinion

Please note:
it sure appears my friend is right. he insists that the 26 is modified.AND let me assure you, he is nearly always right and knows what he is talking about..... contrary to myself.
I looked at it again and have to agree. the six will not 100% qualify as a FAR 6. You need the real thing next to it.
Hope I am wrong...

I kind of agree with HH.. the '6' should be rotated more for a far 6.

Thanks everyone. The more I look at this coin the more it isn't right. I took a long look through my loop and indeed there appears to be some alteration. I purchased the coin from a reputable dealer that I have been purchasing from for years. I will have no problems getting a refund. He deals with a ton of stuff one must have got through. Thanks again.

Just so we are clear on the 1926 I purchased. It is a fake. No question. I went at it with my high qualtiy loop and there is "scapping" above the "6".

As for another variation on the 1926 I wouldn't be surprised as there have been so many variations to surface in the past few years of the George V nickels series.

This is a great forum and highly valued. That's why I ma a supporter. Best money spent. Even after 30 years of collecting you can teach an old dog, me, something new. Thanks for all your help. Better to find out now then down the road when it comes back from ICCS in a "body bag".

Here's a good lesson. Establish a relationship with a honest and reputable dealer. In all fairness, he sees so many collections sometimes you just miss the the fakes and alterations. I didn't look carefully at the coin at his shop. If I had I would have seen the alteration marks.I trusted him and still do. Poop happens. I will get a refund and my search will continue.
