Kind of forgetting here that some or many of the messed slabs could be those China fakes. With China now making PCGS, NGC and who knows what other fake slabs with faked coins in them, just how many of the ones seen at a show are real today. And how many have been tampered wtih. I still remember at a show a dealer showed me a slab that he had opened, changed the coin, resealed the thing and no one could tell. Just one more thing to worry about.

Carl, Are the China fakes easily recognized? I don't know if I have ever seen one. I thought that if a slab was opened it could not be re-closed properly and you would notice it. Got me looking at all my graded coins and will not assume any more. Thanks
Rest in Peace

Just another reason why you should collect coins and not plastic. Aside from the pariah TPG, it's a lot easier to counterfeit a piece of plastic than a coin, and if you're caught, potential penalties are essentially non-existant.

Grades yes, attributions no.

I don't recall how it works at NGC but I believe at PCGS you have to pay extra for variety attributions, unless it's plum obvious. When you're needing to intellectually-challenge them, in other words, they make you pay for it.

NGC is the same way, NGC uses Variety Plus but still its like $10.00 to get it put on the label (its cheaper at NGC than PCGS)

I hate buying coins on ebay... but at least you can get ebay bucks for your purchase. I'm shocked to hear the frequency of NGC errors.
