Matte finishes are tough. They present very little contrast, and wash out easily. I guess you've already discovered this.

I'm thinking two lights, at a much lower angle, might be a direction to go.

You really want to play off of the luster of this coin... as suggested above... really play with different lighting schemes that work best for your coin. Try new things, try to highlight areas that you want to call attention to.

I agree it looks good but maybe the highlights are a little strong on right upper quadrant.
