Yeah! I am still looking for 1503 and 1502. I did look at the one on the bay but decided to continue to dig some more.

CoinsKelly,if the 1503 is the same one I saw,I agree. It is way over-priced. I have a couple of undated denars coming, but one can only be narrowed down to 1500-1502 and the other, one catalog has it as a 1495 and the other as a 1496. There are varieties of the 1490-1502 denars that can be narrowed down to specific dates;1497 and 1498.

How's it going? Are we stuck at 1503? Let's get this train rolling again!

It seems as if we ran into rarefied air. There has been a 1503 denar listed on ebay, but is grossly over-priced. That is the earliest dated denar. In the 1490-1502 time space, the only denars that can be identified for a specific year is 1497 and 1498. There are others that can be narrowed down to 1492/93,1495/6,and 1500-1502. I have one of each of those on the way but they won't do any good for this, but I am still looking.

I am keeping my eyes open as well. This is the part of coin collecting that I enjoy: the HUNT!

If we are allowed Arabic dating as well you could look at the Ottoman akche coins, they should have datings around 1500's as well.

Quote: If we are allowed Arabic dating We didn't? Since when? Heck, I think one or two years were already passed via Arabic-dated coins already. Okay, I understand that Arabic dates might not have a 1:1 correspondence with European dates, which would make getting beyond, say, 1470 tricky. But until then, there's no real reason not to (Not that I could help here, unfortunately; the only pre-1900 coin in my collection that is dated in anything but AD/CE is a Russian kopek from 1599 - only meaningful if we do a 16th-century run like that 18th-century one we did back when we were stuck at 1716... which might actually be a good idea )

If one can determine the particular year a coin was minted, regardless of any actual date (CE or other), then it is valid. Just my humble opinion.

I have no problem with allowing all kinds of dating, as long as one can determine a specific date. I was just wondering if the "rules" said anything else. I say we should allow all kinds

Ngdawa,I noticed that photos of coins you posted earlier in this thread are starting to disappear. How far back will we get before all the hosted photos are gone and this thread takes on the appearance of an empty shell?

Don't worry DBM, it's because I've put them on Photobucket, and then I have re-arranged the pictures amongst my folders.
