How can the Second Edition have stalled? Since we got to the 1490s on the first, shouldn't we at least be able to get that far of the second?

Sure if the same coin owners were still active, which they obviously are not.

I propose we search Vcoins for the appropriate addition and kick in half a buck apiece in Paypal to acquire it. The start of the CCF Family OFEC

OFEC or OFEY ? Was this a tongue-in-cheek suggestion?
If not, whoooze going to maintain said collection?
And would it not be more appropriate to start from the front end rather than waay-far-back, to build such a display? I agree it would be a cool thing to have, and would attract lots of interest at a venue such as the FUN show.
However, humans being the money motivated creatures they are, it seems we would be more likely to see movement in that original thread if a reward were offered for posting a pre-1495 coin rather than asking for petty half-buck chip-ins for something that would likely cost a day's wage for most of us.
Just sayin'.

Exactly. Because some participating in the original thread have not participated in the second.

You can restart as many times as you want, but until you remove that wall it's going to stop you every time.
The sole purpose of the restart is to give new members a chance. We also tweaked the rules to allow multiple coins per year in a 24 hour period (allowing more people to share what they have), whereas the original only allowed one coin per year and could go through several years a day.

I am contemplating a Third Edition for 2015 since the Second Edition has stalled.

To achieve further progress it might be worthwhile to contemplate "One from each decade", that should progress further down the ages. Not sure when that will get stuck, personally I have a huge gap between

AH182, ie 25/02/798-13/02/799 and AH556, ie 06/01/1161-26/12/1161

But there are centuries which can be well covered, see https://goccf.com/t/193302&whichpage=1

Yeah, mostly. Couldn't figure out what happened next if we actually *did* acquire such a coin.

Interesting. I may have to consider that idea.

What I like about the Second Edition is there are 211 pages versus 125 on this one. I think it give more people a chance to participate with the new rules. I know we slammed out the early 1500's in a few days here.

In case anyone forgot, we are still waiting for 1495.

I bet the new ancient thread blows past the 1491~1500 decade before this thread shows the 1495.

Thanks for reminding everyone of the thread in the ancient forum, hope we don't get stuck next week. There are a few difficult decades to come.

This edition needs 1495.

The second edition is at stuck at 1647.

I am certain your accidentally posted that response here since you had to read this thread to look at who posted 1647.

Its about the size of a US Dime, and here is the description/attribution from the dealer's site:

Quote:
Charles VIII of France invaded Italy with 25,000 men (including 8,000 Swiss mercenaries) in September 1494 and marched across the peninsula virtually unopposed. The French Army subdued Pavia, Pisa and Florence on their way south and took Naples on 22 Feb 1495 without a pitched battle or siege. Alfonso was expelled and Charles was crowned King of Naples. The other Italian rulers, including the Pope and Ludovico of Milan, formed an anti-French coalition, the League of Venice, which forced Charles to flee back to France. Charles' garrisons in Naples were subdued by Aragonese allies of Alfonso on 7 July 1495.
