A good friend and I are starting a massive silver half dollar search. Were ordering 6 boxes of half dollars from 8 different banks each week. Anyone out there have any thoughts on how to get the most productive banks? Thanks!

My tip would be, make sure that they don't charge a fee to order, and don't go overboard. Fees and order stops are now the norm due to excessive roll hunters. Some banks have grown tired of it.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72

I'll throw in a thought, too, what the heck. Unless these 8 different banks are in 8 different counties, or unless your dump banks are in a different county, chances are, after only a couple of weeks, you two are going to be searching your own dumps.

I'm setting up an account with brinks for pick up...
I really don't want to see my own dumps !

If Brinks services these banks, you will.

Fistfull is right it won't last long unless they have some deal with their supplier they will get sick of ordering that much coin soon and the costs of it. The commerica bank near me said it doesn't cost them anything extra to order me boxes of coins unless I want them to come in before the normal delivery dates. I am not sure I believe them but I keep it to under 5 boxes a week, and I actually haven't gotten a box in about 10 days. I don't want them to start charging, and lose a good thing I have.

I think what you are doing is a just plain stupid. Let me explain why... Coins stay in the same area and in 2 weeks you WILL be getting your dump coins. I know this as a fact because I get the same pink holed half every other month. With the volume of coins you are searching you will get them back just as soon as brinks get them to their vault. Once brinks get them they are rolled, boxed, and sent back out to fill the banks orders. The only way more coins enter the local area is if the coin suply is short. You will only be removing .01% the coins you search, not nearly enough to cause a coin shortage. And on a side note this idea is a direct contributer to why some banks will not order haves. You are killing the hobby many of us collectors enjoy.

What businesses even use halves these days? Casinos are the only business I can think of.

No banks in my area will order halves for this reason. Lately, the only halves they get in are customer rolled. These rolls are marked with a black mark. No doubt the bank has become a dump bank. Interesting to note though, I've discovered the roll searcher dumping these coins is not pulling the 40% coins. Eh, I'm happy to take them. So, I'm not fortunate enough to buy boxes, so volume isn't what I would like it to be. I spend all my dump coins. You would surprised how often people are happy to receive them. I even had one guy waiting behind me at a checkout ask to buy some of them off me. He bought 50 dollars worth and was pleased as punch I was letting him have them at face value. I sold another fella 100 in SBA's like that once too.

Are you meaning you are going to go through a total of 48 boxes a week? There is roll-searching, and there is this... And I don't even know what you would call that... wow...

Youre just going to be dissapointed. With the fees of it all youre just going to be losing money in the long run.

I agree with 1913. Seems like you are trying to make this a second job. With the fees you'll incur you probably won't see a profit worth as much as you think. Remember this is like gambling., you always here about the time someone really won big. what you don;t her is how the squandered that money the next day.

I would love to know how you plan to dump 48 boxes of half dollars per week. That's $24,000 or 48,000 half dollars. That must weigh hundreds of pounds. The time and effort to haul and dump that stuff may negate any silver you're going to find. Don't want to burst your bubble, but I would still like to see the results.

I agree with the other folks that have commented that you're going to be searching the stuff you just searched.
