I just found a coin that really attracts me. But I'm not sure if I should buy it or not.

The coin is a Russian 5 Kopeek from 1784, and after I checked it carefully it's a Russian strike and not a Swedish strike (unfortunately [:p] )

The thing is that it costs $110 + $2 in shipping. If I would buy it, it would be my most expensive coin I've ever bought. I'm too tired to take a decision since it's 2 AM here now.

I just wanted to hear what the experts here have to say about the coin, real/fake, valuable/worthless buy/sleep instead, etc.

Here's a pic:

It's a beautiful coin but I am not a World coin guy. I would not know what it's worth.

If you do a Google search, I think you'll find that $110 may be at the top end of value for this coin.

It's way too high for a EM coin. If it's KM or AM, it may be another story but I think you can shop around and not worry about this coin disappearing from the market.

OK, but then I just put this one aside
I checked my book and found out that if this would be a Swedish struck it would be worth like $5,000 in this condition, too bad it wasn't, lol!

Thanks for your inputs guys!

It obviously isn't one of those Swedish counterfeited 5 kopek and there are only three dates that were counterfeited. If it's in a similar grade, I reckon 5000 dollars isn't enough - it's that rare.

You're right mate. I don't remember the dates now, but I believe there were just 3-4 dates of the Swedish counterfeite. I just made a quick count from the Swedish Crown to the American Dollar, so I don't doubt that US$5,000 is too low.

Wouldn't go for it. KM value for it is $25 in extra fine condition. You're willing to pay nearly 5x that...?

for references - Take a peek at the ended auctions here at CCF, click the auction tab, there were some coins auctioned off just like that about a month or month & a half ago

That 5 kopek copper coin is simply beautiful!
