Am I reading the right description about these? The following is copied from their site. Read the third paragraph. 2006 American Silver Eagle MS69 - First Strike. Each coin has been graded by ANACS and all have Light Golden Toning as shown. Collectors want the American Silver Eagle both for its value and its artistry. This is a beautiful coin with elaborate design work on the obverse and reverse. The obverse features the "Walking Liberty" design. Liberty is walking toward the dawn of a new day. The reverse features the proud American Eagle with starts and a shield. In addition to the American Silver Eagle's worth as a silver coin, this unique limited edition has been gold plated to maximize its beauty. This classic design has been made even more striking so a new generation of collectors can appreciate this American Icon. Price includes grading fees by ANACS, a $14 value.

It also says that it has "light golden toning AS SHOWN" [emphasis added]. I'm hoping that they just messed up on the gold plated nonsense by copying and pasting the description of some other product (the one at the top of the page.)

Nobis1, does that mean you picked two up? I ordered two hopefully they are not gold plated. A graded coin for under melt can't be a bad deal. Thanks for the free shipping code.

I meant "What does first strike mean?"

From everything I have read first strike is nonsense sales pitch language. The mint claims they have no way of knowing the strike sequence of coins so these sellers take any"early acquisitions" and call them first strike. It can't be proven but it can't be disproven either. I also wouldn't get too excited about the MS 69 grade ,with quality controls on bullion coin strikes(weight accuracy is essential)most are ms 69 or 70. There is minimal premium in the market for high grades on bullion coins.

Hockingzig, you took the words right out of my mouth.
The 'first strike' deal is a marketing ploy used to prey on unsuspecting collectors. It is relentlessly pushed by t.v. shop from home channels. Those people are master rip-off artists.
Almost all silver eagles are going to be MS69 or 70 right out of the tube. You don't need Anacs/pcgs/ngc to tell you that.
Does anyone REALLY believe that when any of those companies gets thousands of silver eagles to grade that they actually take the time to study each coin to grade it? No. They don't. They give 'em a very quick once-over and give 'em a 69 or a 70. There is truly no difference between the two.

Never heard of a top TPG service grading a plated coin. The toning in the picture is exactly like ASE's that I have. I would think that paragraph is a cut & paste thing.

Very happy to hear that the plated thing was just a typo on Whitmans part. WheatBack, you did good by checking this out.
