Certified by a top tier TPG the 16-D in G-4 will run in the low to mid 7 hundred dollar range. I would not buy one below G-4 ,, and if possible to save enough money VG-8 would be my bottom line for grade. Rick

Thanks for your help guys. How much will a VG-8 cost me? My parents are already out about spending so much on a single coin, if there's not too big of a price gap then I'd might as well buy the VG-8.

a vg-8. you would be looking at a minimum of $1100,00+. If it were me do not buy one unslabbed unless you see it in hand and trust the dealer very well. only go with one of the top 3 tpgs. it you spend that much money and you get a under-graded coin you will be made. Also there were a lot of fakes mad. Good luck I would love to get that coin someday.

that's a really nice coin, The cave troll. How long did it take you to get all those halves? Was your bank willing to order them for you? (no such luck here, it's been go to every bank around here and see who has a couple of rolls)

The lastest value from CoinValues is $1,500 for a VG-8. Some reason they don't list a price for a G-4.

If you ask the bank Nicely they will order boxes of Half dollars for you. ($500) My Credit Union does this for me on a regular basis as long as I promise not to bring them back. Not a problem as I roll them and change them at my bank. The last three boxes I searched however have had no silver. Picking up a new one on Monday hopefully this one will have some. To date I have recovered 4 Rolls and 2 Single coins for 90% silver and 17 Rolls and 11 single coins of 40% Silver. Various Proofs a few BU fed wrapped rolls and 1 1974 DD. I have had to go through close to $20,000 worth of Half dollars for this but its been fun.

hmm...4 rolls and 2 singles of 90% halves translates into 82 coins. And if it's being bought at 8x face, then that's roughly $656. And 17 rolls and 11 singles of 40% translates into 351 coins. I have no idea what it's being bought at, but should be around 3x face. Now that would be $953. (I'm doing all this in my head, so could be a little off) So that would be plenty to get me a nice VG, maybe even a F. Now $20,000 worth of halves is 40 boxes, right? Maybe this is doable after all...
Thanks for all your help guys, now all I have to do is get my bank to order boxes of halves for me!

Of all the "rare" coins, the 1916 is the one I desire the most.
Right now, it's out of reach. But, who knows, maybe someday.
