I have been using a miniature "hip-wallet" for years. It goes in your front pocket, so there is very little risk of it falling out. Mine's about 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 1/2" thick (when full) and is a leather bi-fold with just enough room for cash, Driver's License, and a couple credit cards. I highly recommend one if you have a problem in this area.

Down here, when we go to the market in a big town, we usually carry a drop wallet to be stolen out of our back pocket, a drop wallet to be stolen out of our front pocket, yet another drop wallet to carry in the "you know it's gonna be stolen" fanny pack, and just carry your money in your passport holder around your neck.... And, no.... I never carry the passports... :)

I'll take a picture of the wallets my friend across the street has... You can point out what you like. Just be warned. Mail from Guatemala does eventually get to the U.S. (the Canadians run the Guatemalan Post Office for some reason), but it is dreadfully slow.

Probably a good thing you lost $100!
A cheap lesson and maybe you'll be more careful when real money is at stake.
You'll probably be making over 100 grand a year in the next 15 years (or less), provided you continue on the path I assume you are on. that is: education, technology, and being your own man.
The decisions you make early in your life, with your money, can make or break the remainder of your life. I know a whole bunch of people who "loose" a grand a week every week. Alcohol, gambling, walmart, the list is endless, the cash might as well fall out of there pocket.

Remember the pain of this loss, it has a silver lining

Good judgment comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgment. Funny how that works.
