Another reason to collect coins: Low probability of girlfriend/wife accusing you of cheating

I would love to collect coins, but I'm afraid to ask the bank teller for rolls of dimes, half dollars, and pennies

Half Dollars may be scary but Pennies are Mad easy and Dimes to THey don't even ask why.

I might consider doing that. I was thinking about buying some silver collector's coins online at the U.S. Mint online store. Do you find anything good in the penny and dime rolls? I'm looking for more Mercury dimes and older coppers pennies.

As long as you have an account and don't use the same bank as your dump bank, there is not reason to be afraid to ask for rolls. The bank is where you get rolls of coin from.
Having said that, I have much better luck getting CWRs from grocery stores and small corner stores. I've found silver and old coins in those far more often than rolls from the bank.

Rolls are a walk in the park, but boxes...they look at you like if you've gone mad

I'm starting to see less copper pennies and more of the zinc ones now a days.

Someone I work with lost $10 bucks the other day, they had it all folded up in to 1/4 the size of the bill, and it flipped out of his/her pocket when they put their hand in their pocket or what have you. I keep money in my wallet, in my pocket, and I've never lost any money, I only find money. I get irritated when I find money laying on the ground, people are to lazy to pick it up, but happier the larger the denomination. If you have a pickup truck, some spare time, a garage, try this hobby until you get your hundred back. http://scrappingmetal.blogspot.com/

I have been using a miniature "hip-wallet" for years. It goes in your front pocket, so there is very little risk of it falling out. Mine's about 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 1/2" thick (when full) and is a leather bi-fold with just enough room for cash, Driver's License, and a couple credit cards. I highly recommend one if you have a problem in this area.

Down here, when we go to the market in a big town, we usually carry a drop wallet to be stolen out of our back pocket, a drop wallet to be stolen out of our front pocket, yet another drop wallet to carry in the "you know it's gonna be stolen" fanny pack, and just carry your money in your passport holder around your neck.... And, no.... I never carry the passports... :)

I'll take a picture of the wallets my friend across the street has... You can point out what you like. Just be warned. Mail from Guatemala does eventually get to the U.S. (the Canadians run the Guatemalan Post Office for some reason), but it is dreadfully slow.

Probably a good thing you lost $100! A cheap lesson and maybe you'll be more careful when real money is at stake. You'll probably be making over 100 grand a year in the next 15 years (or less), provided you continue on the path I assume you are on. that is: education, technology, and being your own man. The decisions you make early in your life, with your money, can make or break the remainder of your life. I know a whole bunch of people who "loose" a grand a week every week. Alcohol, gambling, walmart, the list is endless, the cash might as well fall out of there pocket. Remember the pain of this loss, it has a silver lining
