Yeah I cashed my federal and state tax checks one year when I was in college and went to the mall. Spent $50 of it at Best Buy, bought some Chinese food at the food-court and...lost the rest. It was all in an envelope because it was too many bills to put into my wallet and I either dropped it on the ground or it was on my tray with the rest of the Chinese food I threw out. I didn't work while I was at college so that was my main supply of money! Needless to say, since then I've never not had my money in my wallet or in some compartment that ZIPPERS!

I've lost and misplaced some spending cash here and there. I made bad spending decisions before. I've been robbed of a large sizable group of coins days before I was going to take it to a coin show. (none of it covered by insurance)
None of these have stopped be, yes I was depressed about it but I just continued on.

I would love to collect coins, but I'm afraid to ask the bank teller for rolls of dimes, half dollars, and pennies

Half Dollars may be scary but Pennies are Mad easy and Dimes to THey don't even ask why.

I might consider doing that. I was thinking about buying some silver collector's coins online at the U.S. Mint online store. Do you find anything good in the penny and dime rolls? I'm looking for more Mercury dimes and older coppers pennies.

As long as you have an account and don't use the same bank as your dump bank, there is not reason to be afraid to ask for rolls. The bank is where you get rolls of coin from.
Having said that, I have much better luck getting CWRs from grocery stores and small corner stores. I've found silver and old coins in those far more often than rolls from the bank.

Rolls are a walk in the park, but boxes...they look at you like if you've gone mad

I'm starting to see less copper pennies and more of the zinc ones now a days.

Someone I work with lost $10 bucks the other day, they had it all folded up in to 1/4 the size of the bill, and it flipped out of his/her pocket when they put their hand in their pocket or what have you. I keep money in my wallet, in my pocket, and I've never lost any money, I only find money. I get irritated when I find money laying on the ground, people are to lazy to pick it up, but happier the larger the denomination. If you have a pickup truck, some spare time, a garage, try this hobby until you get your hundred back. http://scrappingmetal.blogspot.com/
