Curious Question On Proof Sets.... - Coin Community Forum

coinut Valued Member United States 362 Posts	Posted 05/27/2011 3:12 pm I have heard that proof sets do not hold much premium and I was curious....even giving a low MS grade on proof coins in a set wouldn't they hold a higher premium? What I mean is I know some sets are better than others, some may have DCAM, errors, ect but if they are all proofs would they not, at a minimum get a automatic low MS grade without being graded by a TPG? schockergd Valued Member United States 397 Posts	Posted 05/27/2011 3:15 pm I'm curious about this too , I've run into a few proof sets from the early/mid 50s that were sold just for metal content alone. I think (and I'm a major novice) is the fact that alot of people have assembled their own 'proof sets' from coins they culled back in the day, meaning that few if any of the coins are in MS condition. mshev Valued Member United States 312 Posts	Posted 05/27/2011 3:37 pm And a low proof grade for a modern coin is pretty undesirable given that there are so many proof coins out there - all of which were meant to be uncirculated. Huge premiums will only be paid on the very high grade proofs. Report this Post to the Staff
