It's in the EF neighborhood and it looks to have been cleaned at some point. I wouldn't call it "uncollectable" for that--this coin would fit into our collection just fine--just that, that surface is a little on the "dead" side. I could be totally off-base on that, it happens. Anyway, IIRC, these have two reverses, as well, and this one is the "High Leaf" reverse.

Little darker in hand than photos and IMHO, has not been cleaned, that's why I bought it.

I'd say EF-40 without consulting the grading guide....flying eagles are one of my favorites

I always hope someone here will stumble upon a " reverse obverse of 1856" Digicams don't always get the colors right on FEs. They often look washed out/cleaned. Looks like an EF to me too.

I enjoy admiring these. Such a nice design. Nice to see some of feather detail too. Looks XF. Nice coin.

I'm guessing you got a deal--$50?

Yes please I am curious, how much? I have 2 copies that are marked on the flips as Fine but now after doing this for alittle while I know they were over graded. I mean hardly any feather detail at all. I paid around $50 each for them and I know, I'm lucky if they are even VG. This coin is nice to look at good pick!

Definitely an EF and a great purchase. These are one of my favorite coins as well. There's something about that flying eagle on this coin and the SLQ that trips my collecting trigger.

The dealer looks at the code on the back of the holder and says, "Well, I paid $30 for it, give me $33." Uhh...okay.
BTW, I was tough on this coin. Before posting it, I was calling it VF35. I thought it was slightly, and I mean slightly too much wear (reverse) to make it over the XF40 wall.
