hello, I am new here and I am glad to see so many useful discussions about canada coins.

I got several 2011 loon dollars and toonies; however, I never get any 2010 loon dollar or 2010 toonie until now.

Does any one have the information about the mintage of 2010 loon dollar and 2010 toonie?

Thanks.

The mintage information would be in the Royal Canadian Mint's 2010 Annual Report, which has not been released yet. It apparently was delayed because of the federal election.

It was supposed to be tabled in Parliament soon, and will be released shortly after that.

Circulation coinage dated 2010:

$2 - 3,990,000
$1 - 24,460,000 (this would be spread over the four varieties)

That is also a rather low number considering it is spread over the four varieties!

Do those Roughriders loonies ever get circulated? I haven't seen a single one in Ontario.

I haven't seen them in circulation either. The ones I have I ordered from the mint directly.

Both the 1$ & 2$ show a low mintage, and they might become even scarcer considering the recycling program of the Mint.

In the 2010 report, the RCM confirms that the recycling of the nickel coins is slowing down (there's less in circulation), but also mention that the program could become busy again considering the arrival of new multi-layer plated & security-upgraded 1$ and 2$ in 2012.

That means that some "fresh" 2010 loonies & toonies might be melted in 2012 after being in circulation for only 2 years.

The 2010 Loonies and their mintage according to the RCM report:

regular issue: 4.110.000
Lucky Loonie (Olympic Games): 10.250.000
Navy Centennial: 7.000.000
Saskatchewan Roughriders: 3.100.000

Apparently the Roughrider loonies were only released in Saskatchewan. I think the odds of coming across them in Ontario are slim. My source, a post office clerk (He seemed like he was a big coin collector).

I live in Sask.... when they released the Roughrider loonie, they set up a table at the university here and sold them at face value. I went and got my limit of 5.
